Rishikesh, The Yoga Capital
Rishikesh is a city of Dehradun distict of the Indian state. It is known as “ Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas” and and “ Yoga capital of the world ”, located in the foothill of the Himalayas in northern India. It is known as pilgrimage town and regarded as one of the holiest places to Hindus. Hindu sages and saints have visited Rishikesh since ancient times to mediate in search of higher knowledge and salvation. According to Mythology, Rama did penance here for killing Ravana and Lakshmana his younger brother the river Ganges using two jute ropes at the point where the Lakshmana jhula stands today. Rishikesh has been a part of the legendary Kedarkhand. The Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana also mention the existence of Indrakund at this point.
