Rishikesh, The Yoga Capital

  Rishikesh is a city of Dehradun distict of the Indian state. It is known as   “ Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas” and and “ Yoga capital of the world ”, located   in the foothill of the Himalayas in northern India. It is known as pilgrimage town and regarded as one of the   holiest places to Hindus. Hindu sages and saints have visited Rishikesh since ancient times to mediate in search of higher knowledge and salvation. According to Mythology, Rama did penance here for killing Ravana and Lakshmana his younger brother the river Ganges using two jute ropes at   the point where the Lakshmana jhula stands today. Rishikesh has been a part of the legendary Kedarkhand. The Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana also mention the existence of Indrakund at this point. Kedarnath

  Kedarnath is an ancient temple  located in the Rudra Himalaya range (Rudraprayag District, Uttrakhand) is over a thousand years old, built of massive stone slabs over a large rectangular platform. Kedar is another name of Lord Shiva, protector or the destroyer. Ascending through the large grey steps leading to the holy sanctums we find inscriptiion in the Pali in the steps. The present temple was buit by the Adi Shankaracharya. The walls of temple   sanctum are adorned with figures of various deities and scenes from the mythology. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open to genral public only between the months of April and November. During the winter the Vigrah from Kedarnath temple is carried down to Ukhimath and where the deity is worshipped for the next six month. Tehri Garhwal

Tehri Garhwal is   a district in the hill state of Uttrakhand. Its administrative headquarters is at New Tehri. It is surrounded by Rudraprayag District in the east, Dehradun district in the west, Uttarkashi District in the north and Pauri Garhwal District in the south and, Uttarkashi in the north. Tehri Garhwal is a part of the Himalayas. The native of Tehri are known as Garhwali and Jaunpuri. Devbhoomi Uttrakhand

Uttrakhand , a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas, is known for its Hindu pilgrimage  sites. Rishikesh is major centre for yoga study, was made famous by the Beatles 1968 visit. The city  host the evening Ganga aarti , a spritiual gathering on the sacred Ganges River. The state forested Jim Corbett National Park shelters Bengal tigers  and other native wildlife. Waterfall of Maldevta 'PPCL' Mainly Uttrakhand is divided into two parts - Garhwal Mandal and Kumaon Mandal.  It is believed to be the word Garhwal is derived from the Garh -wala (Owner of Forts) given to the ruler Ajay Pal, who is said  to have consolidated 52 principalities to form  the kingdom in the 14th century. After this conquest the domain under Ajay Pal is said to have been called Garhwal, possibly due to the numerous fort in the region.
